Hassanabdal to have food street before year end

TAXILA: The Hassanabdal tehsil administration will set up first ever food street before the end of the year to facilitate domestic as well as international tourists.

While briefing Attock Deputy Commissioner Ali Anan Qammar at the proposed site along G.T. Road near main bus stand, Assistant Commissioner Adnan Anjum Raja said despite its location and being holy city for Sikh community, the city lacks good food facilities.

He said Sikh pilgrims from across the world especially from India and Afghanistan came to this city on pilgrimage four times a year, but hardly got standard food facilities here.

Mr Raja said the aim of establishing the food street was to provide quality food to the customers.

“A diverse menu of food items besides local cuisine will be available to customers once the food street becomes operational,” he said, adding 21 food outlets will be established on three kanals and rented out through open bidding.

On the occasion, the deputy commissioner gave approval to the multi-million food street plan.

The administration also proposed to establish a play area for kids.

The assistant commissioner said the selected bidders will have to pay premium and monthly rent of the outlet.

The deputy commissioner asked the interested bidders to submit applications for open bidding.

“This will be a healthy addition to the existing food outlets and a place to have quality and hygienic food,” he added.

The local business community has also welcomed the decision to establish the new food park saying it would help generate economic activities in the city.
