Sirajul Haq asks PM’s aide to voluntarily clarify position

HYDERABAD: Jamaat-i-Islami emir Sirajul Haq has asked Adviser to Prime Minister on Information Asim Bajwa, who tendered resignation a couple of days ago in the wake of a spate of allegations circulating in social media about his assets, to appear in court voluntarily and clarify his position.

Speaking to journalists at Markaz Tableegh-i-Islam on Saturday, Haq said that Prime Minister Imran Khan suffered from inferiority complex.

He said that NAB should be held accountable along with ruling and opposition parties. Local governments had completed their tenure but provincial governments were not willing to hold LG polls. Apparently, he said, they wanted to delay polls and bring a tailored LG system to maintain status quo because they felt a new leadership would emerge if polls were held.

He said that JI had opposed FATF-related legislation by the government although PML-N and PPP had supported them. JI had asked opposition parties to refrain from backing this legislation because it was IMF’s document aimed at enslaving future generations, he said.

Haq, who is also a senator, said the government claimed FATF legislation was needed to avoid international pressure. Even opposition parties claimed they supported the government as they were facing international pressure while in fact these parties had common objective with international establishment and United States.

He expressed concern over massive damage and loss of life during recent rainfall in Sindh, especially in Karachi and said that situation in Hyderabad — the second largest city of the province — was no different.

Rain was not a bane but governments’ mismanagement turned it into one. Many rain-hit families were living in the open in rural Sindh due to breaches in canal dykes and drains, he said.
