Portion of IIA boundary wall collapses

RAWALPINDI: A major portion of boundary wall near a watch-tower at Islamabad International Airport (IIA) collapsed during heavy rain on Tuesday.

The airport authorities immediately fenced the site temporarily to ensure the security of the premises.

According to sources, the collapsed wall area was safeguarded and secured with chain link barbed wire fencing.

However, the airport authorities said that the damaged wall will be rebuilt properly soon after the rain stopped and weather cleared.

Again the rain water started leaking from the ceiling of Islamabad International Airport on Wednesday as the airport management placed buckets and dust-bins to stop the water from spreading in the lounge area.

Earlier on August 14, a major portion of false ceiling in the departure area of the new Islamabad International Airport’s domestic and international lounges came crashing down during heavy downpour.

No one was reported injured in the incident and there was no disruption of service. However, the repair work was started by the authorities concerned.

Again on August 26, the rain water started leaking from the ceiling of the visiting area of international departure and arrival.

A senior official of aviation said the chain link fence had been fixed at the affected boundary wall area and once the weather is cleared, a proper boundary wall will be constructed.
