Attempt to smuggle foreign currency foiled at IIA

RAWALPINDI: The Customs authorities at Islamabad International Airport (IIA) foiled an attempt to smuggle foreign currency on Monday.

According to airport officials, check-in for a Qatar Airways flight to Doha was in progress when customs officials spotted a passenger, identified as Mohammad Nasir. They inspected his baggage and found international currency including AED 53,000 and QAR 10,000 hidden inside clothes.

The suspect was taken into custody for further investigation and a case was registered against him.

Separately, three Pakistani deportees who arrived from Doha, were taken into custody by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) officials. Upon their arrival at IIA, the deportees were shifted to FIA’s Anti-Human Trafficking cell for further investigation.
