Mineworkers demand cut in food prices

KARAK: The mineworkers here on Thursday took out a rally demanding of the government to take effective steps for bringing down prices of essential commodities.

The rally led by the miners’ district president Naveed Khattak marched in the area and later held a meeting.

The speakers said on the occasion that the government had miserably failed to arrest the increasing prices in the country. They regretted that the government could not control prices of food commodities in the largely agricultural country.

They said that there was a lack of planning and interest on the part of the rulers, adding that the standard of life of masses was deteriorating with each passing day.

The workers’ leaders said the low-paid employees and workers of different industries and mines could not afford the artificial price hike anymore as a few capitalists in the country were sucking the blood of the poor people by hoarding sugar, wheat and other essential commodities.

The speakers said that the government had no system to check hoarding and profiteering.

They claimed that influential mafias were sitting in the ranks of the government.
