BOMBAY: Mr. M.A. Jinnah, President of the All-India Muslim League, today [Aug 12] … refuted the two charges made against him by the Congress. Mr. Jinnah was addressing a large gathering of Muslims assembled this evening to present a purse and donations to him for the Muslim League Election Fund.

Characterising the charges as a Congress “Stunt”, Mr. Jinnah dealt with the first, namely, that the British Government had given him the veto, the second, that his attitude was intransigent and that he was obstructing the achievement of India’s freedom as he was “playing the game of British Imperialism” and thereby insinuating that he was “carrying out the wishes of Britain”.

“All this is false,” asserted Mr. Jinnah, “and those who talk like this know it and they must on saner reflection, realise how silly it is to carry on this false propaganda. They know that all their manoeuvres and machinations are to force the Muslim provinces into an interim or permanent all-India union by hook or by crook and … they look to the British bayonets to perform the task for them and hence they resort to … giving threats to the British Government…”
