BOMBAY: In a statement … today [Aug 9], Mr. M.A. Jinnah, President of the All-India Muslim League appeals to the Viceroy and the Congress President, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, to release the correspondence that passed between them at Simla. He says that this is necessary as very serious allegations are made against the Muslim League and the responsibility for the failure of the conference is being falsely thrown on Mr. Jinnah and the Muslim League.

Mr. Jinnah says: “I find from the Press report which appeared yesterday that the President of the Congress has informed the Associated Press of India that the Viceroy had held the correspondence that passed between him and Lord Wavell as confidential, as it was part of the conference proceedings which, according to the Viceroy, should not be released. Evidently it is implied that the Congress holds the other view, and yet so easily and readily has the Congress President taken shelter under the so-called ruling of the Viceroy”.

Mr. Jinnah asks: Does the Congress not owe any duty to the public? Are the Congress Press and the Congress leaders to misrepresent and scandalise the Muslim League… .”
