RAWALPINDI: Rain is expected on Eidul Azha as the Met Office predicted a new wet spell from Friday to Sunday.

According to a weather advisory issued by Met Office, rain/wind-thundershowers (with isolated heavy falls) are expected in Hazara, Malakand, Peshawar, Mardan, Kohat, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Barkhan, Khuzdar, Zhob, Musa Khel, Kashmir and Islamabad from evening/night to morning hours while humid/partly cloudy weather conditions during the day.

Light rain is also expected along Sindh-Makran coast on Friday and Saturday. Hot and humid weather is expected in other parts of the country.

Mainly hot and humid weather is expected in most parts of the country on Sunday. However, rain-thundershower is expected in Kashmir, Rawalpindi/Islamabad, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Sialkot and Narowal.

Meanwhile, light to moderate rain lashed the twin cities on Thursday morning.

The Met Office recorded 25mm rain at the airport, seven mm at Saidpur, 11mm at Zero Point, 16mm at Golra and 14mm at Bokra in Islamabad and 10mm at Shamsabad and seven mm at Chaklala in Rawalpindi.

The Met Office said light to heavy rain is expected in the next 48 hours. “The weather will remain humid as the monsoon rain usually occurred for 15 minutes to 30 minutes in patches and sun overpowered clouds,” an official said.

Rainwater accumulated in low lying areas and residents along Leh Nullah spent two hours in fear of flood but the water level in the nullah did not increase over six feet at Gawalmandi bridge.

The rainwater inundated Committee Chowk Underpass but the Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) cleared it within an hour.

“There was a brief spell of heavy rain and the situation remained under control,” Wasa Managing Director Raja Shaukat Mehmood told Dawn.

He said four flood response centres had been established in the city area where staff was on a standby round the clock. He said the staff would remain in the field during the Eid days to monitor the situation and drain out rainwater.
