Handball coaching course ends
LAHORE: A seven-day handball coaching course, organised to mark the International Handball Federation Week concluded on Saturday.
The International Handball Federation was formed on July 11, 1946 and globally celebrated the occasion from July 12 to 18.
Over 300 coaches and sports persons including those residing overseas participated in the gala.
President of Pakistan Handball Federation Mohammad Shafiq, who is also Secretary General of Asian Handball Federation, welcomed the participants and highlighted the history of International Handball Federation and Pakistan Handball Federation.
Asian gold medallist and certified handball coach Mohammad Sohaib, Rimsha Younis, Azhar ul Haq, South Asian gold medallist and certified coach and Dr Asad Abbas from POA Medical Commission delivered lectures on different subjects.
In the end POA president retired Lt General Syed Arif Hasan, who is also the OCA vice-president in his closing address congratulated the International Handball Federation for celebrating the week and appreciated the efforts made by the IHF for promoting and developing the sport in the world.
Handball is ranked second sport and declared during the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro after football. At present 209 countries are affiliated with it.
