ISLAMABAD: Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarians Information Secretary Senator Maula Bux Chandio on Tuesday said PPP had roots among the masses and had a tradition of struggle for democracy.

Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, Senator Chandio along with MPA from Sindh Lal Chand Okhrani said they had faced excesses by dictators, but PPP continued to serve the country while those dictators were sent off by the power of people.

He criticised the government for rising inflation beyond the capacity of ordinary citizens.

Mr Chandio said this was a unique government. “All ata, cheeni and petrol chor are sitting with Imran Khan; the kingpin of sugar mafia has fled the country,” he added.Senator Chandio said those who were referred to as corrupt and thieves by Imran Khan were now in the government.

“How did the corrupt politicians who left other parties and joined PTI have become angels now,” he said, adding that “the time spent by Imran Khan in government is only adding to the woes of the general public”.The PPP leader recalled the Movement for Restoration of Democracy (MRD) in the 1980s and said when genuine leaders took to protests people started joining them.

Senator Chandio also responded to the critics of the 18th Amendment and said these federal ministers were afraid of giving powers to the people.

“The 18th Amendment is part of the Constitution and those opposing it will not succeed in usurping the rights of smaller provinces,” he added.
