Civil servants’ salary

A GOVERNMENT revolves around three main pillars: legislature, executive and judiciary. Civil servants are among the most important tiers of the executive domain who play a pivotal role in ensuring administrative tasks are conducted smoothly.

A misconception in our society is that civil servants enjoy a lavish lifestyle and face no financial hardship or difficulty. The reality is different, although they do enjoy some perks and incentives.

The reality is that their salary does not satisfy the hectic, tiring and chaotic nature of their job. In fact, people serving in other fields and capacities and possessing the same sort of job description and experience seem more financially sound and stable.

The federal government’s recent budget has not increased government servants’ salaries. This has caused disappointment within their ranks with many weighing other options. This will be a loss for the country as it will stop to benefit from their skills if they leave for greener pastures.

The government should revisit its decision and take steps to ameliorate the financial status of civil servants so that they can perform their responsibilities more efficiently.
