Wapda workers hold protests

SUKKUR: Employees of the Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda)/Sukkur Electric Power Company (Sepco) held protests in Jacobabad, Kandhkot and Khanpur Mahar of Ghotki district on Monday to press for their different demands.

According to reports, the protests were held under the banner of Pakistan Wapda Hydro Electric Central Labour Union.

In Khanpur Mahar, employees of the operation sub-division Khangarh gathered in front of the Sepco office in the lead of Riaz Abbasi, Amanullah Mirani, Sohbat Memon and others and raised slogans in favour of their demands.

In Jacobabad, they locked their offices, wore black armbands and held a sit-in in front of the main office led by Babu Hanif Lashari, Mehboob Lashari, and others.

In Kandhkot, besides a sit-in, they also observed a token hunger strike for two hours in front of the main gate of the Sepco office under the leadership of Babu Younus Malik, Syed Rasheed Shah and others.

In Khairpur, hydroelectric workers’ union office-bearers and members suspended their office work and protested before the Sepco office.

The protesters threatened to launch an extensive protest movement if the transferred employees were not brought back to their home districts and their other problems were not resolved in time.
