Dental surgeons
THIS refers to the severe dearth of dental surgeons in various areas of Sindh. According to an estimate, there are only two dental surgeons for one million people, which is not sufficient.
It is pertinent to mention here that owing to the insufficient number of dental surgeons in Sindh, quacks are treating patients by charging high fees and that too without protective measures.
This is a cause of spread of diseases, including HIV/AIDS. Besides, dental surgeons are of the view that they are not provided modern instruments to serve patients.
The Sindh health secretary should form a committee to recruit dental surgeons through public service commission in order to overcome shortage of dental surgeons.
