SIMLA: The Congress President’s secretariat got a telephonic communication with Anand Bhawan (Pandit Jawaharlal’s residence) at Allahabad this morning [June 29] and conveyed Maulana Abul Kalam Azad’s desire that Pandit Nehru should come up to Simla immediately for consultations.

The Congress President’s summon to Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru means that Simla deliberations have reached a delicate stage where the Congress President apparently feels it is necessary for him to have Jawaharlal in Simla for consultations and advice. Pandit Nehru has sent the following telegram to Maulana Azad in reply to his S.O.S:-

“Do not await meeting Working Committee. Coming Simla earliest.” The earliest train which Pandit Nehru can take to Simla is tomorrow morning by which after changing at Delhi he reaches Kalka some time on Sunday morning. Efforts at Anand Bhawan are, however, being made to find any other alternative by which Pandit Nehru could reach Simla still earlier.

[Meanwhile, as reported from London,] The new British proposals for an Indianised Executive Council do not affect the duty of British anti-Imperialists to continue to demand complete freedom for India, declares an Editorial in today’s [June 29] “New Leader”, a weekly paper of the Independent Labour Party.
