From The Past Pages Of Dawn: 1970: Fifty Years Ago: Mujib in Karachi

KARACHI: Sheikh Mujibur Rahman yesterday [June 27] said he was demanding six-points as much for East Pakistan as for the West Pakistan provinces. The problems in implementing this programme in West Pakistan due to the existence of more than one province, he said, could be resolved according to the will of the people by finding out workable adjustments.

The Awami League Chief was talking to newsmen in his Beach Luxury apartment on his arrival from Dacca on a 10-day tour of West Pakistan.

He said in another connection that the party would continue to press its demands for suitable amendments in the Legal Framework Order. He added that if it did not come about now, it would be seen what could be done about it after the elections.

When told that certain political elements were suggesting that the popularity of Awami League had shrunk during the last six months. Sheikh Mujib referred to the tall claims made by such groups even in 1954. The ultimate result, however, was that out of over 300 seats, the ruling Muslim League could get just nine seats, and the Awami League made a clean sweep at the polls.
