From The Past Pages Of Dawn: 1945: Seventy-five years ago: Shrinking globe

(EDITORIAL) H.G. Wells and other writers of fantasies may well claim to be prophets since objects they envisioned years ago in their imaginary extravaganza are now being brought by science into the realm of certainty. The war has shown us many a miracle of modern science which seemed fantastic 20 years ago. But unfortunately a majority of these miracles are destructive in relation to mankind. The rockets of the V series, despite their ingenuity in conception and construction inspire awe rather than admiration, since their sole purpose is destruction.

Out of evil cometh good. On the morrow of world peace scientists have set themselves to the task of probing into the yet unexplored vistas of science for the good of their fellow beings. They are, for instance, reported to be experimenting with a jet-propelled plane capable of developing speed up to 2,000 miles per hour. Their experiments have yielded encouraging results. If ever a plane… attains such a speed, this vast planet of ours will shrink to such an extent that it should be possible to have one’s breakfast at Delhi, lunch in London, and afternoon tea at some Continental city to be back in Delhi in time for dinner…
