Khalid lauds PCB for restoring sacked employees

LAHORE: Former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Khalid Mahmood on Saturday hailed the board’s decision of withdrawing the termination letters it had issued to several of its staff last week.

Khalid told Dawn it was “disheartening” to see the PCB terminating services of 50 staffers that included those of lower cadre too during the times of the coronavirus crisis. “But the PCB should be hailed for withdrawing that decision in quick time without making an ego issue,” he said.

The PCB wasn’t sacking its staff due to financial constraints but instead the moves were part of its downsizing policy. However, its timing was questioned by several former Test cricketers.

Khalid also appreciated the gesture of PCB chief executive Wasim Khan, who announced a fund of Rs1.5million for ex-cricketer and officials.

“It’s a crucial time and every step for the good of humanity will be remembered,” he said.
