Mortar shell defused in Bajaur

KHAR: The police on Wednesday defused a mortar shell in a remote locality of Khar, the administrative headquarters of Bajaur tribal district.

According to a statement issued here, the sabotage bid was foiled in Thanig area.

Gul Khan, a farmer, informed the police when he saw the device in his fields. Afterwards, the statement said personnel of Bomb Disposal Squad moved to the locality, and defused the mortar shell, which could have caused an unpleasant incident if the action was not taken instantly.

According to the statement, it was the sixth explosive device having been defused over the last 25 days in the district.

Meanwhile, a man was shot dead in Khar on Wednesday, locals and police said.

They said Ali Hazrat, 35, was on way home in Haji Lawang area when unknown persons opened fire on him. The victim was seriously wounded and died while being shifted to the district headquarters hospital, Khar.

The police registered a case and launched probe into the incident.

The deceased belonged to Barang area.
