New security plan made for CHK

KARACHI: The police, Rangers, hospital staff and civil administration have jointly chalked out a security plan for the Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi to prevent any unpleasant situation developing there in the future, DIG South Sharjeel Kharal said on Monday.

He stated this while visiting the CHK and meeting doctors there. Accompanied by the Rangers wing commander, DC-South, SSP City and other officials, the DIG met CHK MS Dr Khadim Qureshi. The visit was in the wake of the recent violence at the hospital resorted to allegedly by relatives over a Covid-19 patient’s death whose body was not handed over to them owing to SOPs for such cases.

The DIG said that under the new security plan, an additional force would be deployed at the entry gate and emergency of the hospital. An anti-riot platoon would also be deployed there. Besides, video recording would be made with the help of CCTV cameras to meet any eventuality. Communication with the hospital would be further enhanced to ensure security to doctors and other staff.

The MS said that at present 66 coronavirus patients were admitted to the hospital.

The DIG South also visited the nearby Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation and met its additional director Prof Zafar and focal person Dr Fazal Akhtar. Mr Kharal assured them of every possible help for security of doctors and other staff.

Man kills wife in Maymar

A young woman was allegedly killed by her husband in Gulshan-i-Maymar on Monday evening, police and hospital officials said.

They added that Fatima, 23, was murdered inside Al-Jannat Farmhouse. The suspect, Sujawal Lashari, escaped from the area, said SHO Shahid Husain. He said the suspect was a watchman at the farmhouse where he also lived. The couple had a three-month-old baby, Dilshad.

The SHO said that the motive could be ascertained after the alleged killer’s arrest. The body was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital to fulfil legal formalities.

Additional police surgeon Dr Mohammad Saleem said the young woman was murdered with an axe.

Man shot dead in North Nazimabad

A 32-year-old man was shot dead in North Nazimabad on Monday evening, Hyderi Market police said.

They added that Kamran Khan was shot at and critically wounded by gunmen in Khandu Goth. He was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital in a rickshaw, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival, said additional police surgeon Dr Mohammad Saleem.

The motive behind the crime could not be ascertained immediately.
