PPP seeks govt steps to tackle pandemic

PESHAWAR: Pakistan Peoples Party has asked the government to take effective steps to tackle Covid-19 pandemic instead of targeting the opposition parties.

Speaking at a press conference at Peshawar Press Club on Friday, PPP women wing provincial president MPA Nighat Orakzai said the government ministers were continuously criticising the Sindh government and PPP leadership, which had caused serious unrest among her party workers.

Flanked by PPP Peshawar division general secretary Saima Umer and provincial finance secretary Ghazanfar Wazir, she said the government should avoid politicising issues and take all the political parties on board to overcome the coronavirus challenge and seek viable solution to other national issues.

She said that Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had always offered the party’s cooperation to the government in the best national interest, but the rulers did not respond positively. She alleged the government had targeted opposition to divert public attention from its flawed policies.

About corruption in sugar and wheat subsidies, the lawmaker urged the government to arrest all those facing the charges in this regard.

Nighat Orakzai said NAB had initiated inquiries against the PTI people in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, but they were yet to know about the results.

She asked the government to provide personal protective equipment to health staff and ensure proper lockdown to overcome the pandemic. She also called for taking steps to resolve the issues of price hike and unemployment in the country.
