From The Past Pages Of Dawn: 1945: Seventy-five years ago: Muslim India’s concern
SILCHAR: “During our 16 days’ tour of Assam we found the Musalmans of the province solidly behind the All-India Muslim League,” declared Nawabzada Liaquat Ali Khan and Choudhry Khaliq-uz-Zaman in a joint statement to the press before leaving Assam on Monday. Referring to the immigration question the Nawabzada declared at a public meeting in Sylhet that the question was the concern of the entire Muslim India and not of Assam alone.
Nawabzada Liaquat Ali Khan, Honorary Secretary, All-India Muslim League and Choudhry Khaliq-uz-Zaman, Member of the All-India Muslim League Central Parliamentary Board have issued the following statement on the event of their departure from Assam:
“During our 16 days’ tour of Assam we found the Musalmans of the Province solidly behind the All-India Muslim League. Wherever we went we tried together first hand information regarding the land settlement question from official as well as non-official sources … The mass evictions which were being carried out ruthlessly rendering thousands of Muslim immigrants destitute have, we understand, been postponed by the Government for a short time. If the policy of the Government is not modified in the meantime, serious developments may take place.”…
