Border issues discussed with Iran officials

CHAGAI: Pakistani and Iranian officials discussed border matters during a stand-up meeting at the Rahdari Gate in Taftan on Saturday.

The meeting was called by Iranian authorities who had reservations over the bamboo poles placed very close to the zero line near Taftan town at the Pakistan-Iran border in Chagai district, Levies officials told Dawn.

Taftan Assistant Commissioner Mohammad Waris, who led the Pakistan delegation, informed the Iranian team, led by Mir Javeh border official Qasim Peeri, that the bamboo poles were temporary and they were placed so that labourers working on permanent fencing of the border between the two countries could not go beyond it.

Moreover, it was only after a thorough survey and coordination between the officials of the two countries that fencing had commenced, said the delegation from Pakistan. This was the second meeting between the officials of the two countries on border affairs in the past few days. The first one also reviewed measures taken to limit movement of people alongside the border because of the outbreak of Covid-19.
