Domestic players await payments, PCB says will honour commitment

KARACHI: The domestic cricketers who had signed region’s retainership contracts have yet to receive the payments for the months of July and August 2019, it was learnt on Thursday.

On the other hand the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is of the opinion that since the new constitution came into force in August 2019 therefore payments, under the new structure, should have been started from September 2019. However the PCB said it would honour its commitment as per the regional contracts.

“We made that clear in October 2019 and once again are reassuring that payments for the months of July and August 2019 will be dispatched to players in due course of time,” the PCB spokesperson told this correspondent.

“The new constitution came into force from August 19, 2019 and regional outfits were shaped up afterwards. Therefore, ideally the regional contracts should have begun from September 2019. Having said that the PCB would honour its commitment and write off the pending payments”, the spokesperson added.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), in December 2019, made the first tranche payment to the contracted players which comprised three months - September to November 2019 - in one go.

Since then, the players with regional outfits have been getting their monthly salary until the end of March this year.
