From The Past Pages Of Dawn: 1945: Seventy-five years ago: G.M. Syed’s move

KARACHI: With the release of Congress leaders here recently an opportunity was taken by Mr. G.M. Syed, President of the Sind Provincial Muslim League, to understand the policy and programme of the Congress in Sind. With this end in view he is said to have had a series of informal talks with Dr. Choithram Gidwani, President of the Sind Provincial Congress Committee, during the week.

It is stated that both the leaders tried to understand each other’s viewpoint and find out a solution to rid the province of the present ills. They are believed to have discussed various plans to make the Sind Government more stable, but nothing definite has so far resulted from their talks. Meanwhile, Congressmen are busy studying the situation in the districts and they are expected to hold a meeting shortly and review their policy afresh.

In this connection, it may be mentioned that Mr. Shamdas Gidwani, prominent Hindu Mahasabha leader, has been informed by Mr. Gandhi that he would allow Sind Congressmen to act freely in the best interests of their Province. Attempts have also been made by the Sind League leaders to unite all the Muslim members of Sind Assembly under the League fold…
