From The Past Pages Of Dawn: 1970: Fifty Years Ago: Governors’ conference

DACCA: The two-day Governors Conference which began here today [April 7], decided to set up a corporation for Centrally-administered tribal areas in N.W.F.P. to accelerate the pace of development of those areas. Presided over by President General A.M. Yahya Khan, the Conference in its four-hour session today reviewed the general economic situation in the country and considered a number of other items on its agenda.

The Conference, held at the President’s House, was attended among others by the two provincial Governors, Vice-Admiral S.M. Ahsan and Lt-Gen Atiqur Rahman and the Central Ministers except the Finance Minister who is on tour abroad. The second session of the Conference will be held here tomorrow. — Agency

[Meanwhile, as reported by an agency in Islamabad,] Mr M.M. Ahmad, Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission, has been invited to visit China for discussion on further economic co-operation between the two countries.

Official sources said the invitation was conveyed to Mr Ahmad, by Mr Pang Yi, Minister for Economic Relations with Foreign Countries, now in Pakistan leading an economic and friendship delegation.
