Scores of people held for violation of lockdown restrictions released

KARACHI: Scores of people detained for allegedly violating the ban on movement during the ongoing lockdown in the city were released on bail by the judicial magistrates concerned on Tuesday.

Police held around 200 people in different parts of the metropolis for violating the ban.

They were booked in cases registered under Section 188 of the Criminal Procedure Code at the Baloch Colony, Defence and Brigade police stations on behalf of the state.

On Tuesday, the investigating officers produced the suspects before the judicial magistrates to seek their physical remand in police custody. However, the magistrates released the suspects on executing personal bonds and furnishing surety of Rs5,000 each.

Earlier, the police brought scores of suspects without adopting any safety guidelines suggested by the health experts to prevent the spread of the deadly coronavirus.

The witnesses said that the suspects were bound with ropes and stuffed in the mobile police vans when brought to the City Courts judicial complex without wearing face masks.
