Registration of people for relief starts in Bajaur

KHAR: The survey for registration of deserving people for the government’s financial relief package has been started in Bajaur tribal district.

Officials of the district administration told this correspondent here that 127 teams, each having five members, had launched the data collection work across the district.

They said that one schoolteacher, one official of Zakat department, one official of the district administration and two persons from civil society were part of each of the teams visiting every area of the district to register the people affected in the wake of measures taken to contain coronavirus.

They said that two police personnel were also deputed with each team for security of its members.

The officials did not mention when the registration process would be completed. However, they said the teams had been asked to finish the process as soon as possible.

Earlier, the district administration arranged a short training for the members of registration teams. Senior officials of the administration, education and Zakat departments briefed the members about the key points of criteria for the deserving people to avail of the relief package.

Meanwhile, the police arrested seven people, including traders, for violating section 144 imposed by the district administration to prevent the spread coronavirus in Bajaur.

Officials said that the traders were arrested for opening their shops in violation of the orders while some residents were held for roaming in the bazaars without any purpose.
