Inmates of Nowshera lockup to be shifted to college building

NOWSHERA: Two hundred prisoners would be shifted to Government College of Management Sciences, Manki Sharif, from the Nowshera judicial lockup to help neutralise the threat of coronavirus.

Deputy commissioner Shahid Ali Khan said here on Saturday that the provincial government has already declared the college as sub-jail.

He said presently 460 prisoners were housed in the judicial lockup against capacity of 150 people.

He said two patients, who had earlier tested positive, had been discharged from hospital after their test results came out negative.

He said it was good news for the residents that the two affected persons of coronavirus had recovered.

Meanwhile, the police on Saturday foiled a drug smuggling attempt to Punjab and arrested a carrier.

District police officer Kashif Zulfiqar, after receiving information that some persons were trying to smuggle drugs to Punjab, had increased checking on different roads.SHO Azakhel police station Altaf Hussain stopped a car and recovered 2.4 kilogrammes of opium and two kilogrammes of heroin from the vehicle, and arrested Abubakar Siddique, a resident of Khyber tribal district.

Similarly, SHO Risaplur recovered 3.3 kilogrammes of hashish and a pistol from a car and arrested Javid Iqbal of Sheikh Pura, Bilal Hanif of Lahore and Sajid of Rashakai.
