Holy mosque

I WAS delighted to read Dawn’s past pages (March 30). The piece was about Syed Ghulam Bhik Naraing, who expressed his serious concern in 1945 regarding the condition of the Holy Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) mosque in Medina.

He was saddened by the state of disrepair and decided to organise an All India society for persuading the Saudi government to stop tampering with the mosque’s ancient artef acts and façade and undertake necessary repairs, and restore the calligraphy on it which had been effaced.

I also felt pride that my wife, Faiza Salim, who is a historian, is a descendant of Naraing being his great grand daughter. Truly the late Naraing was a great visionary and confidant of Quaid-i-Azam. I salute his memory.
