Wasim Khan speaks to Hafeez over controversial statements

KARACHI: Pakistan Cricket Board chief executive Wasim Khan on Tuesday met senior all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez to discuss the latter’s recent statements against the return of tainted players.

In a recent interview on social media, the 39-year-old Hafeez had raised his concerns on the return of tainted players to Pakistan’s national team.

“The PCB was not happy with Hafeez’s statements which were not in line with the policy of the board. The meeting between PCB CEO Wasim and Hafeez was held in a good atmosphere,” sources in the PCB said. “Wasim reminded Hafeez of the Board’s policy in such matters that any current player is not allowed to make statements on the [mainstream] media and social media.

“Later, the matter stood as closed and it was decided by the PCB that no action will be taken against Hafeez,” reliable sources told DawnNews.

It was also learnt that the PCB will wait for the response of the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) about the status of Pakistan’s tour to England scheduled for the upcoming summer.

“We (PCB) not only will wait for the ECB response but will also be keen to know as to what Ireland and Netherlands cricket boards are thinking about Pakistan team’s tour to their countries after the scenario emerging from the coronavirus pandemic.

“There is still time left before Pakistan’s tour to England so the PCB will wait and see what happens,” a source close to the PCB said.
