Shahbaz asks ex-mayors, chairmen to stand up and be counted

LAHORE: PML-N president Shahbaz Sharif has directed all former party mayors and district chairmen to buckle up to protect the lives of their fellow Pakistanis and start serving the nation with utmost devotion, dedication and honesty.

Addressing a meeting through video link, the opposition leader in National Assembly said: “My extensive experience in serving the people tell me that fight against coronavirus cannot be won without the contribution of local leadership. Doctors, nurses and paramedics are the front line soldiers in this war and the local leadership is a proud platoon of this force against the pandemic.”

He said the PML-N had also devised a strategy to help the people directly as well.

Mr Sharif further said it was a matter of the survival of everyone for which the entire humanity needed to fight collectively. He said victory in this war could only come through the principles of unity, caution, and service. The PML-N started its campaign and measures to fight the pandemic considering it a national, democratic and constitutional responsibility.

He said the greater purpose faced right now was of national sanctity and security and the PML-N did not want that the nation should suffer because of the blunders, incompetence, and cluelessness of the PTI government.

“These local volunteer leaders must also assist the provision of food, medicine and essential items to the people,” he said and demanded the PTI government to restore local body representatives to effectively fight Covid-19.
