From The Past Pages Of Dawn: 1970: Fifty Years Ago: ‘No power can separate’

RAWALPINDI: The President, General A.M. Yahya Khan, said yesterday [March 23] that East and West Pakistan were two limbs of the same body and declared “no power on earth can separate one from the other”. Addressing the impressive Pakistan Day parade at the Race Course Ground, the President said the people of the two wings were bound together by unbreakable ties of religion, nationalism and history.

Expressing his confidence that the people of two wings could overcome every difficulty through unity, the President said so far as the armed forces were concerned everyone knew that they had always been ready in the service of the nation.

“They have successfully met every threat to our security and shed their blood in defending our country,” the President added.

President Yahya said: “I have no doubt in my mind that our armed forces will maintain their fine tradition and will be ready to lay down their lives in the discharge of their sacred duty of guarding the frontiers of Pakistan.”

He said even in peace time the armed forces had always responded to the call of the nation by performing their duties with selflessness and dedication and by safeguarding the integrity and glory of Pakistan. — Agency
