Karak has many feasible sites for mini dams: official

KARAK: Director general of the soil and water conservation department Yaseen Khan Wazir has said there are many feasible sites for construction of mini dams in Karak district.

“Rainwater across the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province will be conserved through dams to use it for irrigation and drinking purposes,” he added while addressing a seminar organised by Jamaat-i-Islami’s Al-Khidmat Foundation here on Monday.

Foundation’s chairman Shakirullah Hawari and members of Chountra and Takht-i-Nusrati water users’ groups were in attendance.

Mr Wazir said the Prime Minister Agriculture Emergency Programme would put the province’s agriculture sector on modern lines and usher in a green revolution.

Mr Wazir said construction of small dams in Karak would greatly help resolve drinking water problem of the locals. He stressed on the participants to create awareness among the people about the utility of small and mini dams.

BOOKS LAUNCHED: Chairman of Pashto Academy of the University of Peshawar Prof Nasrullah Jan Wazir on Monday unveiled two Pashtu and one Urdu book at a ceremony organised by Tula Adabi Sanga, a local literary organisation.

The books are titled ‘Mohmand’ in Urdu language and ‘Aseer-i-Zandan’ and ‘Kulyat-i-Faiz’ in Pashtu.

Faiz Adabi Awards were given to 36 poets and literary personalities of different districts for their outstanding work.

Deputy commissioner Shah Rukh Ali Khan and Jan Wazir were the chief guests.

Mr Ali appreciated the services of the literary organisation for promoting Pashto literature. He said his administration would continue cooperation with the local poets and literary figures in promoting the Pashtu literature. He said the newly-established district library would soon be made functional.

The other speakers stressed that no nation could progress without promotion of their mother tongues.

A number of poets attended the ceremony and recited their pieces.
