‘Quacks spreading infectious diseases’

KARACHI: Sindh Healthcare Commission (SHCC) in collaboration with commissioner Shaheed Benazirabad (SBA) organised an awareness seminar on quackery at the Peoples University of Medical and Health Science for Women (PUMHSW), Nawabshah.

Officials at the event said that quacks were responsible for spread of hepatitis C and other infectious diseases in Sindh. They said that the district administration, health department, SHCC and the police were engaged in action against quacks.

Directorate of Anti-Quackery SHCC in a weekly reported said that it had sealed 3,426 healthcare establishments (HCEs) across Sindh so far while warnings over non-compliance have been issued to 1,083 clinics.

The directorate of complaints has received a total of 132 complaints till date out of which 86 complaints were disposed of, 40 are under process while six are sub-judice.

The directorate of licensing and accreditation has received 22 new applications for registration this week and a total number of applications has reached 10,688 so far.
