NMU student attempts suicide

MULTAN: An MBBS student of the Nishtar Medical University attempted suicide on Saturday, allegedly after he failed in the viva voce test of his final year surgery examination.

Kashif Raza, a resident of Muzaffargarh, failed in the viva voce test by two marks.

Later, he attempted suicide by cutting his hand’s veins.

He was immediately shifted to the emergency ward of the Nishtar Hospital where he was provided treatment.

As per sources, Raza alleged he was victimised, adding that he never failed in any examination during his academic career.

Raza had appeared in the final professional MBBS exam held in December 2019 that comprised theory, clinical and practical tests and a student has to get through all the tests to qualify.

NMU Vice Chancellor Dr Mustafa Kamal Pasha, however, denied the victimisation allegation, saying as the panel for viva voce test comprised eight people, it was not possible that one of them could victimise a student.
