Illegal slaughterhouses sealed in Upper Dir

UPPER DIR: Two slaughterhouses were sealed for operating illegally in Patrak area here on Friday.

Assistant commissioner, Sheringal, Mohammad Saqib Khan along with tehsil officer infrastructure, Kalkot visited the Patrak Bazaar and checked price lists and hygiene at shops. They sealed a grocery shop for not maintaining cleanliness. Four hotel owners and many shopkeepers were fined over unhygienic conditions and profiteering.

The officials asked the shopkeepers to observe price list and keep their outlets clean.

Meanwhile, the inter-tehsil U-21 games began at the Dir stadium with a colourful ceremony on Friday. Executive magistrate headquarters Ijaz Akhtar was the chief guest.

Players from six tehsils of Upper Dir, including Dir, Lar Jam, Wari, Brawal, Sheringal and Kalkot, would compete in football, volleyball, kabaddi, tug-of-war, athletics and badminton.

On the occasion, Ijaz Akhtar said sports helped youth improve their mental and physical health. He said they should also focus on their education alongside sports activities.

District sports officer Mukhtiar Hussain said winners of the U-21 competitions would be given a cash prize of Rs20,000 and runners-up Rs10,000 each along with trophies.
