City continues to experience warm days

KARACHI: The city continued to experience unusual warm weather on Monday with the temperature touching 34 degree Celsius mark due to the influence of the system in northern Pakistan which, the Met office said, was likely to stay for another couple of days.

The city saw mercury touching 34.8 degree Celsius with mostly dry air prevailing. A senior official said the city was experiencing warm days due to a stagnant high-pressure system in the northern parts of the country which would stay till Feb 19.

“The weather conditions usually in February remain pleasant with temperature shuffling between 26 and 28 degree Celsius,” said Karachi weatherman Sardar Sarfaraz. “A record was set on Feb 25, 1996 when the temperature was recorded at 36.1 Celsius. But we don’t think that this record is going to be broken this year. The weather condition would hopefully normalise from Feb 20.”

Meanwhile, in its advisory the Met office predicted mainly dry weather in most parts of the country, while cold conditions were forecast for upper parts of the country during the next 24 hours. Mithi in Sindh remained the coldest part of the province where nine degree Celsius was recorded on Monday.
