Dera police repulse attack on checkpost

DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Police repulsed a terrorist attack on a checkpost in the wee hours here on Monday.

According to a police report, a group of terrorists riding on motorcycles attacked the Kethi checkpost on Darban Road in the jurisdiction of Dera Town police station with hand grenades and rockets. But the police personnel manning the checkpost thwarted the terrorist bid. No casualty was reported in the attack.

However, the checkpost was partially damaged. The attackers managed to escape after stiff resistance from the police.

Soon after the incident, the security personnel and police reached the spot and cordoned off the area. A search operation was launched to trace the attackers, but till filing of the report no arrest was made.

Station Commander Brig Shamrez Khan, regional police officer Syed Mohammad Imtiaz Shah and Dera DPO Hafiz Wahid Mahmood visited the checkpost, and appreciated the police personnel for their bravery. The policemen were awarded with cash prizes.
