Protest against police for ‘releasing POs’

FAISALABAD: A protest demonstration was staged on Friday against the Batala Colony police for allegedly releasing three proclaimed offenders (POs) wanted in a murder case.

Protesters gathered at the district council chowk and blocked traffic while chanting slogans against the police.

Talking to reporters, the protesters alleged that four suspects, including Shahzad, Ammar, Mukhtar and Ameer, had stabbed a man to death in 2018. Police had arrested a suspect, while three others remained at large and all of them were declared POs.

Later, police managed to arrest the remaining suspects on the information of the family who kept tracing them for over a year. However, the deputy superintendent of police and homicide in-charge of Batala Colony had released them after getting bribe from them.

The protesters appealed to the police high-ups to appoint an honest officer to probe into the issue and fix responsibility on the policemen responsible.
