Contractors asked to ensure safety of miners

GHALANAI: The administration has asked the minerals and mines contractors here in Mohmand tribal district to ensure safety of workers during mining activities.

The directives were issued in a meeting held at Jirga Hall here on Tuesday. Assistant commissioner, Upper Mohmand, Hamid Iqbal, assistant commissioner, Baizai, Abdul Wahab, assistant director mines and minerals department and a number of contractors attended the meeting.

The ACs said that Pakistan Red Crescent Society, Mohmand chapter, had planned first aid trainings for the safety of mines contractors and workers in different areas of the district.

Mr Wahab said that he visited various mines in Baizai subdivision and had found the safety measures for the workers inadequate.

He said that the main Peshawar-Bajaur expressway had been damaged due overloading of marble in trucks, which would not be allowed in future.

Mr Iqbal asked the contractors to ensure availability of first aid kits in their respective mines as a safety measure.

PRCS district secretary said they had conducted the first aid training for the mine workers of Ambar, Ziarat and border areas of Baizai.

ROAD PROJECT: Work on construction of Tatareen-Skha Oba road could not be started even 11 months after approval of the project, said Inyat Rehman, Ayub Shah and others while addressing a press conference at Mohmand Press Club here on Tuesday.

They said that the road project was sanctioned for the three villages 11 months ago. However, they said the area people still faced problems to reach their destinations. They said that in the absence of road the tribesmen were also facing problems to access the marble and other mines in the area.
