Lethal winter

APROPOS the editorial ‘Quetta blast’ (Jan12). Quetta used to be a peaceful and tranquil city where people from the country would come in winter to see snowfall. In recent years, winter in Balochistan has become deadly, forcing domestic tourists to stay away.

Violence has become the norm in Balochistan and it has become a playground for some foreign powers and militant groups. It is they who for the sake of furthering their interests are causing violence in our province

The recent bombing in a mosque took 15 lives including a prayer leader and a police officer. This was the second terror attack in Balochistan in less than a month. Earlier, a security force vehicle was targeted killing two people and injuring eight, the responsibility for which was taken by the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan terrorist group.

Our law enforcement agencies must track down and take out the perpetrators and make sure that they neutralise these enemies of Pakistan who are using Balochistan as a battleground to fight their proxy war.

It is time to adopt a zero-tolerance policy toward terrorism and extremism to weed out this scourge from Balochistan.
