‘3m patients treated in CHK last year’

KARACHI: Sindh’s largest tertiary care institution, the Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) has catered to about 2,903,727 patients in OPDs, while 689,386 patients with emergency requirements were also treated in accident and emergency department.

According to the annual statistics released by the CHK, in 2019 a total of 2,903,727 patients were provided consultation facilities in different outpatient departments (OPDs) as compared with 2,598,916 patients in 2018.

Similarly, 689,386 patients with emergency requirements were brought to the accident and emergency department in 2019 as compared to 678,020 in 2018.

More than 55,971 women were provided consultation in gynae/obs emergency, while 20,193 deliveries were also performed during this year.

The CHK statistics further showed that 97,892 patients got admission in various departments of the hospital in 2019, as compared to 91,899 in 2018.

Approximately 10,604 dog-bite cases were recorded at the dog-bite clinic last year as compared to 16,312 cases in 2018.

As per data a total of 41,774 general surgeries were performed last year, while 39,326 surgeries were conducted in 2018.

The CHK statistics revealed that 1,603 deaths were also registered in the institution in 2019 as compared to 2,057 deaths in 2018.

The bed occupancy rate remained 99.11 per cent in this institution last year.
