Bajaur teachers seek service regularisation

KHAR: Teachers of the Basic Education Community Schools in Bajaur tribal district on Wednesday demonstrated to seek regularisation of their services and payment of salaries of several months.

The protesters accompanied by students gathered outside the press club building.

Holding placards, they shouted slogans against the federal government and federal education ministry for denying them rights.

The leaders of teachers said the BEC schools offered free education to residents on their doorstep, mostly in remote areas, while 209 teachers, including women, had been working there for Rs8,000 monthly salary since appointment 25 years ago.

They said most teachers of BEC schools were very poor people, so they’re struggling to manage household affairs due to low salary and its prolonged denial.

The speakers demanded of the government to ensure an immediate end to their misery.

FILLING STATION ATTACKED: Some people opened fire at a filling station in Nawagai area here on Wednesday damaging several vehicles.

However, no damage to public life was reported.
