Labourer dies after falling into well

HARIPUR: A labourer died after falling into a well in a remote village of Beer union council, family and police told Dawn here on Saturday.

Police said a labourer later identified as Saifur Rehman, a resident of Mardan district, was busy digging well at a house in Teembar village. When he was coming out the well by a rope to have lunch, the rope broke and he fell into the well. The about 40-yard fall caused him head injuries.

The locals pulled out the labourer from the well and shifted him to the Haripur Trauma Centre for treatment, but he succumbed.

Meanwhile, armed robbers deprived the owner of a house in Sera a Saleh of cash and valuables, police and the house owner said.

According to Soofi Nazir, a resident of Mohalla Soka Ali Khan, he was asleep with his family when two masked men entered his room after scaling the boundary wall and held the inmates at gunpoint. He said the robbers decamped with Rs200,000 and gold ornaments.
