From The Past Pages Of Dawn: 1969: Fifty Years Ago: Dacca ladies’ memo

DACCA: A deputation of city ladies today [Dec 3] met Governor Vice-Admiral S.M. Ahsan and submitted a memorandum urging him to take “immediate effective steps” to bring down the prices of essential commodities. The memorandum was signed by 3,868 leading ladies of the city.

The Governor gave them a patient hearing and promised to take necessary steps in this respect.

Led by poet Sufia Kamal, the deputation consisted of Mrs Nurjahan Murshed, Hosne Ara Chowdhury, Refeka Mahiuddin, Kamrun Nahar Laily, Hamida Rahman, Badrun Nesa Ahmad and Matia Chowdhury. — Agency

[Meanwhile, as reported by an agency in Islamabad,] Talks between the visiting Soviet delegation and Pakistan Commerce Ministry for a new agreement for exchange of goods during 1970 will start here tomorrow [Dec 4] when the agreement may be signed.

The Soviet delegation which arrived this morning consists of seven members, headed by Mr P.I. Sakoun, chief of the Main Department of the Ministry of Foreign Trade. The Pakistan side is led by Mr Masood Zaman, Joint Secretary Commerce. ...
