From The Past Pages Of Dawn: 1969: Fifty Years Ago: Arrests at factory

LAHORE: Forty persons were arrested at the Packages Ltd here today [Dec 1] for brickbatting and assaulting the Police force. Two labourers and seven members of the Police force including a Sub-Inspector were injured as a result of a scuffle between the labourers and the Police.

According to a Press note issued here by the Commissioner this morning, about 250 labourers who were not resuming work in the packages factory stoned the Packages bus carrying labourers to the factory and two labourers were injured.

When the Police tried to stop them, the mob attacked the Police with stones and brickbats. A Sub-Inspector and a Policeman were assaulted by the mob resulting in serious injuries to them.

The DSP had to fire three shots in the air to rescue the Sub-Inspector and Policeman. No one was injured as a result of these shots. Later, three more Policemen were injured seriously by the mob. Ultimately, the mob was dispersed by the Police, who arrested 40 persons for brickbatting and assault. — Agency
