Man nabbed while ‘kidnapping’ schoolgirl, handed over to police

OKARA: Police on Sunday registered a case against a man who was allegedly caught red-handed while kidnapping a minor schoolgirl in Samadpura locality of the city.

As per the first information report (FIR) lodged by the minor girl’s father Jameel with City B-division police, Nazim, who also lived in Samadpura, was forcibly taking his seven-year-old daughter Harim Fatima, a nursery class student, with him when he and some other locals chased and overpowered the suspect. Later, he was handed over to the police.

The FIR said the suspect confessed to have attempted to kidnap two other minor girls -- Gul-i-Zehra and Mohrama Fatima -- in the city some two months back, but escaped arrest.

The police registered a case (FIR No 577/19) under section 363 of the Pakistan Penal Code against the suspect.

The police said they would also investigate into the previous alleged kidnap attempts made by the suspect.

MURDER: A man allegedly stabbed his wife to death over some family dispute in Basirpur on Sunday.

According to the FIR, lodged with Basirpur police by the victim’s brother, Abdullah, his brother-in-law, Akbar, entered the complainant’s house and attacked his sister (Akbar’s wife) with a knife, stabbing her repeatedly. The suspect managed to escape, leaving his wife injured critically.

It said the injured woman was being rushed to Dipalpur Tehsil Headquarters Hospital by Rescue 1122 staff when she succumbed to her injuries.

The police registered a case under section 302 of the PPC against the suspect, who was yet to be arrested.
