Signals on Kashmir Highway to be replaced in three months

ISLAMABAD: If all goes as planned, conventional signals on Kashmir Highway will be replaced with sensor-based signals within three months.

The new signals will have optical sensors which change the timing of green and red lights based on the traffic volume.

The CDA is going to replace conventional signals with sensor-based signals on Kashmir Highway from G-7 to G-11 and a tender has been called in this regard.

CDA officials said in the first phase five signals at G-7, G-9, G-10, G-11 and Police Lines would be replaced while those on Margalla Road would be replaced in the second phase.

“We have called a tender after completing the process and I think within three months the signals on Kashmir Highway would be replaced,” said a CDA engineer.

“The authority is taking various steps to ensure smooth traffic flow and curb traffic jams, especially during peak hours. In this connection, not only road infrastructure is being expanded and improved but also modern technology is being used to cater to the future traffic needs,” said a statement issued by the CDA.

In July this year, the CDA had decided to replace 20 conventional signals but so far tender for only the signals on Kashmir Highway has been called.
