PMC allows dental college to admit students

ISLAMABAD: The newly established Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC) on Wednesday allowed a private dental college to start giving admissions.

The decision has triggered severe criticism on social media as former councils, headed by Prof Dr Shabir Lehri and retired Justice Shakirullah Jan had stopped the college from giving admissions.

According to a letter issued on Nov 12, recently appointed Secretary of PMC Dr Arsalan Hayat has permitted the Rawal Institute of Health Sciences (RIHS) to admit students in medical and dental sections.

“Referring to your application pertaining to stopping of admissions of your dental section, the matter was considered and it has been decided that the reasons upon which the admissions were opened in your Medical Section vide PMDC letter dated Oct 19, were applicable to your dental section as well.

“Therefore, the admissions in your dental section are permitted and opened with immediate effect and the letter dated Oct 19 shall be applicable to both your medical and dental sections,” the letter states.
