PESHAWAR: Pakistan Army reached a whopping 44 gold medals while Wapda followed with 26 golds to their name at the 33rd National Games on Tuesday. Navy were third with 11 gold medals.
Jaffar Ashraf won Army a gold when he hit the 4.50m mark with team-mate Gul Faraz making the silver medal by scaling 4.40m. Mohammad Asif of Pakistna Airforce managed to take home the bronze medal.
Wapda added to their tally of gold medals courtesy Sohail Amir, who completed the men’s 10,000m run in 31.05.86 with Army’s Atiq-ur-Rehman following for the second place and Navy’s Ali Hassan finishing third.
In women’s long jump Maria Maratab of Army by leaping 4.96m, took gold followed by Faiqa Riaz of Higher Education Commission (HEC) and Amna Siraj of Wapda.
In women’s shot put Zeenat Parveen of Wapda took gold medal by throwing as long as 11.72m while Rimsha Khan of Wapda, with a 10.58m throw, won the silver medal. Army’s Nabeela Kausar grabbed bronze medal courtesy a 10.07m throw.
In women’s 800m Anila Gulzar of Army took gold medal while Rabia Ashiq of Wapda ended second and Rabeela Farooq, also of Army, took bronze.
Olympian Mehboob Ali took gold in the men’s 400m hurdles while Nishad Bhatti and Mohammad Adeel of Wapda finished second and third. In the women’s 400m Najma Perveez won her fourth gold medal, Musarat Shaheen took silver and Tehreem Alam of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa managed to win the bronze medal.
In women’s high jump Hubab Munir won gold medal, followed Noureen Fatima of Wapda and Maria Maratab of Army.
Mohammad Ikram of Army took gold in the men’s 800m while Waqas Akbar and Zeeshan Nazir finished second and third respectively.
In the rowing event, which is being held at the Rawal Lake in Rawalpindi, Pakistan Army won 10 gold medals, 12 silver and one bronze medal, Wapda claimed eight gold medals, six silver medals while Railways won two gold medals, three silver and 14 bronze medals. Navy grabbed three golds and two silvers.
